Next generation advanced RNA inhibition therapy to treat cardiometabolic disease - LiverTarget NEW
HORIZON-AG - HORIZON Action Grant Budget-Based (EU Commission)
May 2022

Program info:
LiverTarget aims at exploiting siTOOLs Biotech’s and other partners’ years of research in the field of cardiometabolic research, the identification of ceramide pathways and inflammatory targets, and the development of novel siRNA technologies and lipid formulations, to:

  1. Generate innovative siRNA pools and synthetic mRNAs to regulate ceramide and inflammatory targets in the liver.
  2. Formulate them in established human-approved liver-targeting lipid nanoparticles (LNP).
  3. Determine their efficacy in vivo in preclinical mouse models of obesity, diabetes, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and atherosclerosis.
  4. Complete the necessary safety and toxicology evaluation of the most promising lead candidates and prepare the preclinical evaluation dossier for the European Medicines Agency (EMA). More info

Development of an application method for a systemic varroa treatment with lithium chloride in honey bee colonies - subproject B (EAsyLife)

Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture of Germany (Bundesministerium für Ernährung und Landwirtschaft - BMEL)   Program:

Granting Organization:
Grant Date:

Development of an application method for a systemic varroa treatment with lithium chloride in honey bee colonies - subproject B (EAsyLife) NEW
Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture of Germany (BMEL)
Feb 2021

    Program info:
Honey bees are indispensable pollinator for the ecosystem as well as for agricultural production. For both, honeybees and beekeeper the worldwide distributed parasitic mite Varroa destructor represents the greatest threat. Varroosis has been proven to be the main driver for periodic colony losses and economic damage. Currently, there is no satisfactory treatment available that meets all requirements of the beekeeper. With the discovery of lithium chloride (LiCl) we present a new active substance with a high varroacidal potential combining a high efficacy against varroa mites with good tolerability for bees. Due to the systemic mode of action LiCl can be easily applied. The main objective of the project is to develop a practicable application for this new compound in order to reduce colony losses and economic losses of the beekeeper. More info

Bayerische Forschungsstiftung (Bavarian Research Foundation)   Program:
Granting Organization:
Grant Date:
Program partner(s):

RNAi and CRISPR: Leistungsvergleich und Anwendungsleitfaden
Bayerische Forschungsstiftung (Bavarian Research Foundation)
Dec 2017
Prof. Dr. Heinrich Leonhardt, Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München

    Program info:
This two year research program aims to benchmark gene disruption approaches - RNAi and CRISPR. Up to 100 genes will be disrupted with siPOOLs, single siRNAs or CRISPR sgRNAs with the aim to study the efficacy and specificity of gene disruption, robustness of phenotypes produced and costs/efforts involved. A range of techniques will be used including imaging, deep sequencing and cellular assays. More info
